It happens to everyone at sometime in their lives. A workmate, neighbor or even a relative approaches you out of nowhere and starts hustling you to buy something from them or join their “sales team.” It takes you aback and you don’t quite know how to respond, but the last thing you want to do is buy their product or join their team.
Much of the bad publicity that surrounds the MLM industry stems from the terrible way that the products and opportunities are marketed. A lot of the problem originates at the highest level of management. MLMs are promoted as foolproof opportunities that promote products that sell themselves and assure new distributors that they can succeed even if they have no prior sales experience or understanding of marketing. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth.
The product may indeed be as good as they claim it is, but it can’t sell itself, as they claim. It might also be true that you are providing a product that people will be grateful to have and really could profit from if they became part of your MLM sales team.
They’re not lying. MLMs offer some unbelievably fantastic products and business opportunities. In fact, if you find an MLM opportunity that offers a product you love, it can be a dream business. It’s the perfect opportunity, in theory of course. Putting it into practice, though, and making it work for you requires some assistance. Lots of it.
In the MLM world as we often see it, the efforts of those who enter the market often backfire. That’s because they go about it in completely the wrong way. Their misguided sales techniques actually drive away potential business partners. They often don’t want to know about the opportunity even before they know what the opportunity is. You could learn to mistrust your own mother if she came to your door trying to sell you on something the way too many amateur marketers do.
A good marketer somehow makes you want to join their team or buy their product even if you don’t know what it is. There are a few natural born master marketers, but most of us have to learn how to do it. So where’s the best place to learn these underground jedi ninja techniques? From someone who has traveled this road before you. And most importantly, from someone who is still actively marketing today.
Who’s providing you with your MLM success training? Is it your company upline who hasn’t actively marketed since Seinfeld was still on the air? Are you being taught how to build YOUR OWN enterprise or just how to become another rep peddling products for the company?
Think about it rationally for a minute. As business models go, MLMs are perfect. They allow individuals to establish a home-based business with very little cash outlay. But what I feel is not perfect is the training provided by most MLM companies. There are options available, not just the ones provided by your upline. Remember, this is YOUR business and you have the luxury of running it however you wish.
This is a question you really need to ask yourself..”How do I want to run my business”?
The answer to this question will lead you in the direction of the MLM training you need. Find someone who runs THEIR business the exact way you want to run yours and align yourself with them. Is it offline through your warm market, meetings, face to face..etc? If so, seek out someone ACTIVELY doing this (with some degree of success) and learn as much as you possibly can from them. Same can be said for online marketing as well.
With the proper MLM training, you can build YOUR enterprise in whatever fashion you desire. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
